In the heart of the Majella mountains, among cobbled alleys and timeless views, Guardiagrele transforms every summer into the capital of Abruzzo’s artistic craftsmanship. From August 4 to 24, 2025, the 55th Abruzzo Artistic Handicraft Exhibition returns—an event that for over half a century has celebrated skilled hands, the beauty of manual work, and the strength of tradition.
This is more than just a fair. It’s an experience that embraces the entire town: workshops open their doors, squares turn into stages, and art blends seamlessly with everyday life. Strolling through the exhibition spaces means immersing yourself in a living heritage that tells the most authentic story of Abruzzo.
Art, Culture, and Innovation
This year, over 100 selected artisans from across Italy will showcase works in ceramics, wrought iron, wood, copper, bobbin lace, glass, and jewelry. A central feature of the exhibition will be the national “Nicola da Guardiagrele” competition, dedicated in 2025 to Gabriele D’Annunzio, with a unique jewelry collection inspired by his designs, created by the master goldsmiths Buccellati of Milan.
Alongside traditional crafts, the event will feature contemporary projects and artistic installations, including:
- Berengo Studio with its artistic glass sculptures
- Concepticon Studio and the light installation project “Trame di Luce”
- SUGO Biofilic Design, with nature-inspired and sustainable furniture
- A major retrospective on Costantino Barbella, the greatest 19th-century sculptor from Abruzzo, showcasing original terracotta and plaster works.
Events, Music, and Special Guests
Evening shows, live performances, and concerts will enrich the program, including:
- “Symphony of the Trades” by Maestro Maurizio Colasanti, turning the sounds of craftsmanship into a musical composition.
- Performance by international soprano Susanna Rigacci.
- A concert by Trio Meraki, blending classical and contemporary music.
A wide range of side events will complete the experience: children’s workshops, introductory artisan courses, thematic exhibitions, and talks with designers and industry experts.
A Community that Preserves Knowledge
Among the most meaningful initiatives of this edition is “Porte Aperte” (Open Doors), an inclusive project involving local schools and healthcare centers. Students and patients collaborate with artisans to create pieces featured in the exhibition—an example of how culture fosters integration and growth.
There will also be guided tours, local food tastings, and discoveries of traditional crafts, organized in synergy with the region’s production network.
